HOW TO CLEAN DOG VOMIT ON WOOD FLOORS

There is not much we don't love about our dogs, but there are a few responsibilities pet owners would get rid of if given a chance. Perhaps cleaning up after your dog has gotten sick occupies the top spot on that list.

It's essential that you attend to a vomit stain on hardwood floor as quickly as possible before it can sink too deep into the surface. The acid in vomit is especially harmful to wood floors and can leave the affected area looking dull or discolored.

People often rely on homemade floor cleaners for fear of ruining their floors with a manufactured cleaner. A pantry staple that is commonly used for cleaning and deodorizing is white vinegar; however, even a mixture of water and vinegar can ruin the finish on wood flooring.

A sprinkle of baking soda is known across the internet as the be-all and end-all deodorizer. Like vinegar, baking soda can wear away at your wood floor's sealant. It can be abrasive, so it's recommended that you use it in a wet solution, but moisture on wood flooring poses a new level of risks. Excess water seeping through cracks and joins cause warping and damage the underlayment.

Simple Green Oxy Dog Stain & Odor Oxidizer uses the fast-acting natural power of peroxide to oxidize and destroy pet stains and odors. The color-safe, and versatile stain remover easily removes pet soils from tile, finished or painted wood, laminate, linoleum, vinyl, concrete, brick, carpet, fabric, and more.

Directions for Cleaning Up Dog Vomit on Wood Floors:

You do not need to wear gloves when using Simple Green Oxy Dog Stain & Odor Oxidizer, but feel free to use some when cleaning up vomit to avoid touching the mess with bare hands.

  1. Remove the solids. Use a couple of dry paper towels to pick up the bulk of the mess.
  2. Absorb the liquid. To avoid the mess seeping further into the floor, let the remaining liquid soak into a handful of paper towels before cleaning.
  3. Spray cleaner. Lightly spray the area with Simple Green Oxy Dog Stain & Odor Oxidizer.
  4. Scrub between panels, if necessary. If some vomit has seeped between the floor panels, you can use a toothbrush to scrub the creases. Make sure you throw the toothbrush away when you’re finished.
  5. Wipe clean. Wipe with a clean, damp, non-abrasive cloth, sponge, rag, or paper towel.
  6. Dry. Allow the area to dry.
