HOW TO CLEAN A MARBLE SHOWER

Marble can elevate the look of any room, and given that no piece of marble is the same, it can add a touch of uniqueness to your bathroom. Whether it be marble countertops, marble floors, or stone tiles, it's essential to clean consistently to keep the surface looking beautiful.

Marble starts its formation as limestone, so it can be etched by hard water deposits if used in showers and wet areas. Because of this, it's important to wipe your marble shower down after each use to get rid of soap scum and minerals from hard water.

Never use acidic limescale removers, lemon, vinegar, or citrus-based soaps to clean a marble tile shower. Since marble is such a soft natural stone, acidic cleaning products can etch and damage the sealant that protects the stone.

Also steer clear of using bleach or ammonia products on marble as these will dull the glossy surface over time.

A pH neutral cleaner like Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner is perfect for cleaning marble shower floors, shower walls, and other delicate bathroom surfaces. The powerful cleaner dissolves tough stains and watermarks without damaging the marble.

You'll need to clean marble shower grout, floor tiles, and walls a couple of times a week if the shower is used more than one or two times a day. If it's only used once or twice a day, you might be able to get away with cleaning it once a week.

Directions for Cleaning a Marble Shower:

  1. Mix your Simple Green solution. Mix 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner with about 2 ½ cups of water in an empty spray bottle. If your shower is light-colored marble, you could also mix 1 ½ cups of Simple Green Oxy Solve Total Outdoor Cleaner with 1 ½ cups of water.
  2. Spray. Generously coat sections of the shower floor and walls with your solution.
  3. Scrub. Use a soft scrub brush to address any areas covered in soap scum or hard water stains.
  4. Rinse with clean water. If your shower head is detachable, turn the water on and use it to rinse the shower walls and floor. Otherwise, fill a bucket with water to rinse.
  5. Dry. Once all sections are cleaned, wipe down until totally dry.
  6. Polish. Use a mixture of baking soda and water to polish your marble after you've cleaned.
    1. Combine about 45 grams of baking soda with about a liter of water and mix well in a medium-sized bowl.
    2. Use a clean cloth to apply the mixture to the surface.
    3. Allow the paste to dry for about 5 hours, then use a microfiber cloth and warm water to rinse.
    4. Dry buff with a clean microfiber or chamois cloth.

TIP: Seal with a penetrating sealer to extend the life of marble in your bath or shower. No sealant will make marble stain-proof or waterproof; it will only provide stain or water resistance to make the surface easier to maintain.
