HOW TO CLEAN A CHARCOAL GRILL

What You Need

The outdoor barbecuing experience is a time-honored tradition in backyards around the globe. But keeping your charcoal grill clean can be a challenge, with sauce splatter, burger grease and accumulated leftover chunks of charred food on your grates - not to mention unwelcome leftover flavors from last week's fish cookout working their way into your burgers.

You want to reach for a product that's strong enough to cut through grease and char without leaving harsh chemicals behind, like powerful, U.S. EPA Safer Choice Certified Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING A CHARCOAL GRILL:

  1. Prep. Make sure the grill is completely cool. Remove the grill and charcoal grates and place them on newspaper to contain the mess.
  2. Coat the grates with Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner and let them sit for a few minutes. Use a grill brush to scrub away grime, then rinse thoroughly with water.
  3. Spray underside of the lid with Simple Green and scrub gently to remove buildup. Wipe clean and rinse.
  4. Coat the interior of the grill with Simple Green, let it sit, then wipe out grease and debris. Rinse well.
  5. Spray and wipe down the exterior of the grill with a clean cloth—especially if you don't use a grill cover. (optional)
  6. Put everything back together, clean your tools, toss the newspaper, and you're ready for the next cookout.
