HOW TO CLEAN A SHOWER HEAD

You've looked forward to a long, hot shower all day. When you finally get in, turn the knob and brace yourself, you're met with a sad, slow drizzle.

Water running through a shower head for years and years can lead to clogs, mildew and even bacteria growth. If you live in a region with hard water, your shower head is more likely to get clogged with minerals like calcium and magnesium more frequently.

Don't settle for weak water pressure or risk damage to the flex-hose or shower head, when this tends to be an easy fix. You can prevent problems by cleaning the shower head twice a year, to eliminate scale buildup and mineral deposits within the fixture. Areas with particularly hard water may need more frequent treatment. This will return the water flow to its proper pressure.

It's common to clean a clogged shower head by submerging it in a plastic bag filled with white vinegar, but vinegar's corrosive qualities may cause damage to the surface. Even cleaning with baking soda may leave behind more of a mess than you had when you started.

Simple Green Lime Scale Remover contains corrosion inhibitors to help protect your shower head while cleaning. It's specially formulated to effectively dissolve and remove scale, soap scum, water spots and mineral buildup without harsh chemicals.

Directions for Cleaning a Shower Head:

Before cleaning your shower head, consult the manufacturer's instructions for information specific to the model you own. Protect eyes from splash, spray or drip by wearing glasses or goggles.

  1. Remove the shower head. Twist the head counterclockwise to loosen and remove it from the nozzle. If you have difficulty, wrap a soft cloth around the connecting nut for protection and use a wrench to loosen the showerhead.
  2. Rinse filter. If possible, remove the filter screen. Rinse the filter screen while gently scrubbing it with a toothbrush or stiff, non-metallic brush.
  3. Apply product. Spray Simple Green Lime Scale Remover onto the surface of the showerhead, or apply with a damp sponge or cloth.
  4. Scrub the nozzles. Use your brush to dislodge mineral deposits and lime scale buildup, taking care not to scrub the soft rubber too vigorously. Use a toothpick or safety pin to clean the shower head holes.
  5. Reassemble and test. Once it's clean, reassemble and reinstall the shower head. Run the shower for two minutes to test flow and flush out any remaining cleaning product.

Heavy Cleaning:

You can pour Simple Green Lime Scale Remover into a shallow glass bowl and soak the screen and showerhead for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing. Pour unused fluid down the drain and flush with water, or use it to wipe down faucets, shower door or other areas with soap scum or light scale.
