HOW TO CLEAN VINYL

What You Need

  • Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner
  • Damp microfiber pad or non-abrasive cloth
  • Dilution bottle or empty spray bottle
  • Soft bristle brush or non-abrasive scrubbing pad
  • Vacuum

Vinyl is commonly used throughout vehicle interiors, including seats, dashboards, door panels, floor mats, and trims, because it's easy to clean, non-porous, and resistant to UV exposure. However, over time, vinyl can accumulate dirt, body oils, food spills, and other grime, causing it to look dull and worn.

Regular cleaning helps maintain the appearance of vinyl surfaces and prevents dirt and oils from becoming more difficult to remove. Vehicle interiors should be cleaned as needed, with high-touch surfaces being cleaned more frequently.

Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and stiff brushes that can damage, discolor, or crack the vinyl. Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner is a safer alternative. It removes dirt, grease, and everyday messes and is suitable for cleaning most automotive vinyl surfaces.

Directions for Cleaning Automotive Vinyl Surfaces:

Tip: Spot test in an inconspicuous area before cleaning the entire surface.

  1. Clear Debris. Begin by vacuuming any loose dirt or debris.
  2. Wet Surface. If cleaning heavy soils, pre-wet the surface. This helps Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner penetrate soils and makes it easier to clean.
  3. Dilute Solution. Use a dilution bottle or empty spray bottle to dilute the Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner at a 1:10 ratio (1 part cleaner to 10 parts water).
    • Tip: Avoid spraying the cleaning solution directly onto electronic displays, including the instrument panel, touchscreen, and infotainment screen.
  4. Spray Solution. Spray the solution onto a cloth or directly onto the vinyl surface, avoiding nearby electronics and sensitive surfaces. For heavy soils or greasy spills, allow the solution to soak for about a minute before scrubbing.
  5. Scrub Stains. Agitate the stain by scrubbing with a soft bristle brush or non-abrasive scrubbing pad to loosen the dirt.
  6. Remove Residue. Wipe away loosened dirt and cleaner with a damp microfiber cloth.
  7. Dry Surface. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth or soft towel.
