HOW TO CLEAN A CAR DASHBOARD

What You Need

  • Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner
  • Dilution bottle or spray bottle
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Small brush or old toothbrush
  • Vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment
  • Water

Your dashboard might not face the same elements as your car's exterior, so it's easy to overlook when cleaning. But it's one of the first things you and your passengers see when stepping inside. With all its buttons, vents, and small crevices, it's also a spot where dust, dirt, and oils tend to accumulate.

A specialized dashboard cleaner is a common tool used for this task, however, many of these products contain harsh chemicals. Since the dashboard is a high-touch surface area for both drivers and passengers, this isn't an ideal option. Silicone-based cleaners are also popular, but can leave behind residue and cause dashboards to yellow over time.

Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner is perfect for cleaning your dashboard. It's gentle enough to handle everyday dust and debris, yet strong enough to cut through sticky spills, residues, and oily fingerprints.

Directions for Cleaning a Car Dashboard:

Tip: Always spot test in a small, hidden area before full application to ensure surface compatibility.

Tip: Do not apply Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner to thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) screens. Clean these screens using only lukewarm water and a microfiber cloth.

  1. Vacuum. Vacuum the dashboard with a soft brush attachment to remove loose dust, dirt, and debris.
  2. Dilute. In a clean, empty spray bottle or dilution bottle, dilute 1 oz. of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner with 1 cup of water, then gently shake or swirl the solution in the bottle to mix.
  3. Spray and wipe. Spray the solution directly onto a clean microfiber cloth and wipe the dashboard, working in small sections so the product does not dry on the surface before rinsing with a damp microfiber cloth.
  4. Clean crevices. Use a small brush or an old toothbrush to clean dashboard knobs, air vents, the radio, and other tight spaces where dust and dirt tend to collect. While you're cleaning the dashboard, you can also wipe down nearby interior surfaces like the steering wheel, gear shift, cup holders, and center console.
  5. Rinse. Wipe each area with a clean, damp microfiber cloth to remove any remaining solution.
  6. Dry. Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the surfaces and remove any remaining moisture.
  7. Repeat. For any stubborn spots or buildup, repeat steps 1-6.
