HOW TO CLEAN WINDOWS

Window washing should be a regular part of any Jan/San cleaning maintenance schedule. Dirt, pollution, dead bugs, and water spots left behind by rain or sprinklers prevent natural light from illuminating your space and providing a crystal clear view.

There are some who prefer not to use commercial glass cleaners often resort to cleaning windows with a vinegar solution without considering the off-putting, lingering smell. Vinegar also doesn't handle anything remotely greasy, like soot or pollution, very well.

Whether you're cleaning off layers of dirt built-up on the outside or streaks of fingerprints and dust on the inside – or both – cleaning tools like a squeegee and Simple Green Clean Building® Glass Cleaner can simplify the process and leave your windows looking crystal clear and streak free. The ammonia-free formula is a safer alternative to other flammable or hazardous window cleaners. It also doesn't require the additional wiping time and elbow grease that a less effective solution, like vinegar and water, does.

For best results, clean when windows are shaded, or on a cooler or cloudy day so your cleaner won't dry too quickly on a hot surface leaving streaks.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING WINDOWS:

Outside Windows

1. Remove and clean the window screens. Vacuum them to remove dust and dirt. Then, use a hose or a spray bottle to lightly spray each screen with water. Allow the screens to fully air dry before replacing them when you're done cleaning the windows.
2. Wash away dirt and grime. Use a hose to rinse away the top layer of grime from the windows and panes. You can also use a pressure washer on a low setting. If you don't have access to a hose, use a pump-up sprayer or spray bottle of water to rinse off dust and grit.
3. Mix 4 oz of Simple Green Clean Building® Glass Cleaner with a gallon of water in a bucket or other open-head container.
4. Clean the outsides of the windows. Dunk your squeegee with a wet cover (or a cloth attached with rubber bands) into your bucket. Thoroughly work the cleaner onto the surface of the window. If you're looking to clean your windows without streaks, you shouldn't skimp on applying your window cleaning solution. Make sure you leave the mixture on the glass for a couple of minutes before wiping.
5. Squeegee dry. Remove the wet cover or cleaning cloth before drying. Always dry by pulling the squeegee blade from top to bottom. For small-paned windows, use the rubber blade on a squeegee to wipe the cleaner away vertically. For larger picture windows, use horizontal strokes. Wipe the blade dry with a lint-free cloth between each stroke, and make sure the blade is always in contact with the window to avoid missing spots.
6. Wipe up any missed spots or streaks with an absorbent, lint-free towel or a damp, wrung-dry chamois. Don't forget to also dry the windowsills with a rag.
7. Buff to shine. Use a clean, dry microfiber, cloth, or paper towel to finish.

Inside Windows

1. Wash away dirt and grime. Use a lint-free cloth and water to wipe away dust and dirt.
2. Mix 4 oz of Simple Green Clean Building® Glass Cleaner with a gallon of water in a bucket or other open-head container.
3. Clean the insides of the windows. Lay down a large towel before you clean to catch any spills or drips. Spray Simple Green directly onto the window. Use a new, damp microfiber or lint-free cloth to spread the cleaner over the surface of the window. Make sure you leave the mixture on the glass for a couple of minutes before wiping.
4. Wipe clean from top to bottom. Use a clean, damp microfiber or other lint-free cloth or towel to wipe away the cleaner.
5. Wipe up any missed spots or streaks with an absorbent, lint-free cloth or a damp, wrung-out chamois. Don't forget to also dry the windowsills with a rag.
6. Buff to shine. Use a clean, dry microfiber, cloth, or paper towel to finish.
