HOW TO CLEAN ARTIFICIAL GRASS

Many homeowners jump at the opportunity to install artificial grass lawns because they do not require even half the amount of care and maintenance as do natural grass lawns. You don't have to fertilize, mow, aerate, or water synthetic grass.

Just because it doesn't have as many maintenance requirements doesn't mean it doesn't require any maintenance. Factors including kids, pets, wildlife, or even a lot of trees and shrubs can all dictate how often you need to clean your artificial grass. Living in a particularly dusty or rainy area can also determine your synthetic lawn's cleaning and maintenance needs.

Home remedies such as solutions of vinegar and water, soap and water, or baking soda won't address the source of a mess or odor.

Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner's safer solution will help you revitalize your artificial grass and other outdoor areas.

Proper maintenance of artificial turf can help ensure that it remains in good shape long term. Rinse your lawn once a week with plain water, and deep clean at least once a month using the directions below.

When in doubt about a surface, always spot test first.

Directions for Cleaning Artificial Grass:

  1. Remove dust, dirt, and leaves. Use a flexible lawn rake or a broom with stiff bristles.
  2. Prepare your Simple Green solution. In a bucket or large container, mix 1½ cups Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner with a gallon of water.
  3. Wet. Hose down the area.
  4. Apply Simple Green. Use a long-handled deck brush to apply the Simple Green solution in sections.
  5. Rinse. Rinse well with your garden hose. Push any foam to the edges and water it down.
  6. Repeat. Apply your Simple Green to the next section and rinse.
  7. Air dry. Allow the entire turf area to dry before using your rake or broom again to groom the blades into their upright position.
