HOW TO CLEAN BRAKE DUST

What You Need

When properly cleaned and polished, car rims can shine with chrome-like brilliance. Regular maintenance is key to preventing pitting and corrosion caused by built-up dirt, grease, and brake dust.

Brake dust is made of carbon fibers from brake pads and tiny metal shavings from the rotor. When you brake, the resulting friction generates heat and wears down these parts - producing the black residue you see on wheels, tires, and nearby surfaces. This dust can bond to the rim surface, especially when hot, making it difficult to remove. If left untreated, brake dust can cause permanent staining, pitting, or etching - especially on aluminum wheels.

Soap and water alone won't remove oily road grime or stuck-on brake dust. Instead, use Simple Green Max Automotive for a powerful, safer clean.

Simple Green's non-corrosive, non-abrasive formula cuts through brake dust, grease, and grime without leaving residue. It's safe for all types of wheels - including chrome, aluminum, painted, clear-coated, and custom finishes - as well as all tire types. It's also overspray-safe for surrounding car surfaces and non-flammable for added peace of mind.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLEANING BRAKE DUST:

  1. Spray Simple Green Max Automotive on cool, dry wheels.
  2. Allow the cleaner to sit for 1 to 2 minutes so it can break down grease and brake dust. For tougher buildup, gently scrub with a wheel brush, soft-bristle brush, or sponge.
  3. Rinse the wheels and surrounding area with a garden hose.
  4. Wipe dry with a microfiber cloth.

NOTE: Do not clean over asphalt.
